The key to extending the life of your blooms is keeping your water fresh and free from bacteria. Keeping a bouquet fresh begins with a clean vase. Dirty vessels can harbor harmful bacteria, so before placing your arrangement in a vase always give the vase a good cleaning. A drop of two of bleach in your wash water will help remove all bacteria. Next, after your vase is clean, you want to trim the ends of your stems. Stems should be cut at a 45-degree angle so that they don’t sit flat against the bottom of your vase. While trimming the ends of your stems, make sure to remove any foliage that would sit below the water line of your vessel. Leaves in the water rot quickly and introduce bacteria into the water, reducing the longevity of your blooms. Adding some flower food to your water provides nutrition – just sprinkle the provided packet of food into your water! Last, but not least, change the water daily. This is one of the most important steps. The fresher the water, the longer your arrangement will last. Following these steps will ensure you have a long-lasting bouquet that is sure to bring happiness!
